Able Zine
LONDON, UK
Artist led digital zine representing disabled and chronically ill creatives
In 2017, after becoming sick with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Claudia Walder founded Able Zine – a publication that seeks to increase representation for disabled and chronically ill creatives, young people and communities. Able Zine aims to break down taboos that inhibit personal freedom and equal opportunity.
In the years prior to becoming ill, Claudia worked as a freelance fashion stylist and creating directional imagery for fashion editorials and big music names such as Stormzy, D Double E, Slow Thai and activists like Munroe Bergdorf. AbleZine has taken orders from around the globe and received acclaim from the likes of Tate Modern and the BBC.
“Able Zine aims to share the voices of the disability community that is rarely heard and often marginalised. I was drawn to Claudia’s approach to disability as she discarded the stereotypes and focused on creativity, style and expression in the form of a Zine. Able Zine have created a fresh platform looking at the spectrum of disabilities to increase representation in the online space”
